Our classroom is in the Fonville Morisey real estate school office

directly across from Ted's Montana Grill.

Our classroom is on the second floor.

If you need elevator access, you can find an elevator on the far north end of the two-building office complex, right by the nail salon.

Our plaza is across the street from SouthPoint Mall in the Renaissance shopping center

with Pier 1 Imports, David's Bridals, and REI.

There is plenty of parking but the lot gets busy on weekends and holidays.

Next meeting:

Sunday, August 27, 2017
1-3 pm

Mike Kalt, LYNN Squire and Jarrett Ross who attended the IAJGS Annual Conference

will provide the highlights from that event.

AND:  Our members asked for a session where we can ask questions, talk about our brick walls, and share resources.  This is it!

It's also a chance to get to know each other better.

Our usual talented members will be on hand to help with individual questions, too.

IAJGS Icon Janette SIlverman

Dr. Janette Silverman is a Senior Genealogist Research Manager at AncestryProGenealogists.  For over 35 years she has been involved in researching Jewish genealogy and grappling with the unique challenges it poses. In addition to her professional life as a genealogist, Janette’s free time is taken up by her volunteer activities with JewishGen.

Janette is the Coordinator of the Ukraine SIG, a moderator of the JewishGen Discussion Group,  and was Lead Co-Chair of the 2016 IAJGS conference in Seattle Washington. She was recently honored by JewishGen as the volunteer of the year. Her doctoral dissertation, “In Living Memory” was about Jewish genealogical research and the contextualization of the micro-history of families within a larger macro-historical framework.  She continues to delight in the fact that her favorite partner in research is her father.

Ukraine Research and Travel

 A “Different Approach”

The discussion will focus on what Ukraine research is and its unique challenges. In addition to the fairly recent political situation in Ukraine, there are other challenges and obstacles to the path to successfully finding our Ukrainian ancestors.  Janette will draw on her own travels to Ukraine and research in several archives and her experiences dealing with resources to acquire data.
